Sarasota Bay

Increase Habitat

Category: Submerged, Intertidal and Wetland

Cost: $10 million

Description: The goal of the project was to increase habitat that would include increasing the acres of seagrass, wetlands, and reefs.

Outcome: The project was very successful with almost 2000 acres of new habitat available. As of 1996, 1751 new acres of seagrass have been created. There have been 21 wetland restoration projects that have yielded 200+ acres of new wetlands, and 21 new reef sites have made 50+ acres of reefs available.
