Stormwater Management

Category: Wetland and Upland

Cost: $18,000 NHEP; $18,000 Portsmouth

Description: Various stormwater management techniques are used: sediment basin, grass strip, shallow water wetland and wet pond (deep basin) construction, wildlife openings, turf grass perimeter, outflow riprap, vegetation control, fencing, bird boxes, silt fencing. Pre- and post-monitoring is conducted, including aerial photos.

Outcome: Hydrologic and biological functions improved. Dissolved oxygen readings are favorable, submerged aquatic vegetation is thriving, water absorption has increased, no flooding of adjacent properties have been recorded, sediment load is lower, and native plants are replacing invasives.
