Indian River Lagoon

Mosquito Impoundment Reconnection

Category:  Intertidal and Wetland

Cost:  ~ $5,000/culvert

Description:  Restoration of marshes impounded for mosquito control through the installation of gated culverts and the implementation of improved management protocols.

Outcome:  More than 20,000 acres of marshes have been reconnected to the Indian River Lagoon through this program. Various forms of rotational impoundment management (RIM) have been developed and implemented in these impoundments, allowing management for a variety of purposes.
