Casco Bay

Restoration

Category:  Wetland

Cost: Information not provided.

Description:  Casco Bay NEP is playing a key role in developing a River Management Plan for the Presumpscot River.  This document promises to play a key role in building consensus for an approach to river restoration that may involve the removal of multiple dams and installation of fish at several sites and the development of protected lands and trails along the river corridor.

Outcome:  If dams are removed and fish passage installed, the Presumpscot River may be able to support self-sufficient runs of diadromous fish.  If lands are protected and access provided, the Presumpscot River may become a valuable recreational, biologic and economic asset for the Greater Portland community.
