Tampa Bay
Adoption of Mitigation Criteria for Tampa Bay
Category: Intertidal and Wetland
Cost: In-kind from participants to develop criteria
Description: A working group of researchers, consultants,
and resource managers developed recommendations for mitigation criteria in
the Tampa Bay watershed, including on- and off-site mitigation; safeguards
to protect native uplands conversion to wetlands, bank siting; management
costs for mitigation upkeep, and whether mitigation should count towards overall
habitat restoration goals established for Tampa Bay. These recommendations
were adopted by the Management and Policy Boards in 1999.
Outcome: Criteria for on-site and off-site mitigation for
the Tampa Bay watershed are being used by agencies. Implementation has not
yet occurred for several elements of these criteria, including further examination
of public mitigation bank(s).
