Supplemental Environmental Project (SEP)

Description: A supplememental environmental project (SEP) that will involved the acquisition of wetlands for conservation was agreed between the PR Electric Power Authority (PREPA) and the USEPA as part of a settlement for an enforcement action. PREPA will provide $3,400,000 for the implementation of the proposed SEP. The lands to be purchased have been proposed for designation as a nature reserve by the SJBE CCMP.

Outcome: Until March 2001, USEPA and PREPA were reviewing proposals from various non-profit organizations, to select the one that will be in charge of implementing the SEP.
