Lower Columbia River Estuary
Joint Technical Workshop to Prioritize Preservation, Conservation, and
Restoration
Category: Submerged, Intertidal,
Wetland, and Upland
Cost: $79,000 in 319 grant funds
Description: Estuary Partnership jointly sponsored technical workshop
in June 2001 to begin process of developing science based criteria for prioritizing
preservation, conservation, and restoration projects. More than 100 people attended,
8 workgroups identified and tested possible criteria. Currently the Partnership's
Science Work Group is merging and refining that work. Ultimately a master list
of projects will be developed and at least one test project will be implemented
to validate our assumptions. The Partnership secured 319 grant funds from Oregon
and Washington to support a technical specialist to move effort forward. The
Partnership annually lets $50,000 in small grants to local groups to undertake
projects to help implement the CCMP actions. Among these are habitat conservation
and restoration projects.
Outcome: A list of prioritized habitat preservation, conservation and
restoration projects will be developed using criteria developed at the workshop
and the Partnership will take the lead on promoting their implementation.
