Maryland Coastal Bays

Maryland Coast Day, A Day of Environmental Education on the Beach

Category: Submerged, Intertidal, Wetland, and Upland

Cost: $10,000/year

Description: This event is held annually in September. It is designed for families and has a festival-like atmosphere. The event is held on Assateague State Park with entertaining and educational activities including: local food, music, arts and crafts, touch bowls, kite flying, sand castle building and surf casting lessons, free interpretive boat rides, and wood carving. State and federal environmental agencies participate and show off what they do.

Outcome: This is a great event. It is highly suggested that every NEP have an annual event like this. This event is complemented with the Isle of Wright Clean-up (April), the Canoe Clean-up by Assateague (June), the Osprey Sprint Triatholon (October) and three other fundraisers.
