Bayscapes Volunteers Plant Plants

Category: Upland and Wetland

Cost: $10,000/year

Description: A grant was awarded to a South Point community to undertake a native plant restoration project for 6,000 acres in their community. The first plantings were done on common property, the next phase included plantings at homes and farms to replace turf grass. The volunteers did all the work with assistance from the Maryland Coastal Bays Program and the US Fish and Wildlife Service.

Outcome: At this time, 20 "Bayscaped" yards and 5 demonstration projects have been completed, covering an area of 2 acres. This project is highly recommended.
