Tampa Bay

NWI and Land Use Maps

Type:  Extent of habitat (i.e., area of habitat and whether there has been a decline).

Category:  Intertidal, Wetland and Upland

Cost: Information not provided.

Description:   For this study, aerial maps would be used to estimate the extent of coastal marsh, mangroves and coastal uplands.  NWI and land use maps generated from aerial photographs that are taken every five years provide estimates of extent of coastal marsh and mangroves, and coastal uplands.  Originally the information would be used to determine the relative abundance (in acres) of coastal habitat types.  It was also to be used to develop habitat restoration master plan for Tampa Bay.   The maps will now be used to help track the progress toward restoration goals.

Outcome: The land-use maps generated from the study and those in the future will be used to help track progress towards restoration goals.
