Neuse River Benthic Fisheries Habitat Modeling and Monitoring (ModMon)

Type: Extent of habitat (i.e., area of habitat and whether there has been a decline); condition of habitat and sources affecting habitat (i.e., the condition or functionality of the habitat); and stressors affecting habitat (i.e., which sources have contributed to its degradation and whether they are direct or indirect factors).

Category: Submerged and intertidal

Cost: Information not provided.

Description: The investigator will continue studying how oxygen depletion in bottom sediments changes the number and kinds of sediment-dwelling creatures that many fish rely on for food, focusing on learning how long it takes a benthic community to recover adequately from anoxic events to be valuable to fish. He will also relate the output of predictive models being developed to changes in benthic habitat and subsequent fish production.

Outcome: This is an ongoing project and the outcome is not known at this time.
