Tampa Bay

Water Quality Database for Chlorophyll A, Salinity, and Nutrient Concentrations

Type:  Condition of habitat and sources affecting habitat (i.e., the condition or functionality of the habitat).

Category:  Submerged

Cost:  $350,000/year for Hillsborough County; Baywide estimate of $500,000/year

Description:  This project provided the technical database for development of chlorophyll A and nitrogen targets. In Tampa Bay, ambient water quality has been collected by county participants since 1972, providing a long-term monthly record for over 100 sites throughout the bay. Information was gathered from the existing database to provide the technical basis for development of chlorophyll A targets and nitrogen loading targets.

Outcome:  The results of this project were critical for the development of empirical models relating water quality parameters to seagrass light requirements.
