Sarasota Bay
Seagrass Trends
Type: Extent of habitat (i.e., area of habitat
and whether there has been a decline).
Category: Submerged
Cost: $30,000
Description: The project called for a bay-wide analysis
of seagrass trends.
Outcome: Analysis revealed that seagrass coverage
increased 18 percent between 1988-1996. Seagrass coverage declined
between 1996-1999 by 10 percent, but there was a corresponding
60 percent increase in continuous bed during the same period.
