Description: Since the mid-1970s, the SCDHS has collected surface water samples from various stations within the Peconic watershed; over 12,000 samples have been taken to date. Currently, samples re taken every other week at 35 stations located throughout the estuary. Wter samples are analyzed for a suite of parameters including nutrients (nitrate + nitrite, ammonia, total nitrogen, total dissolved nitrogen, total phosphorus, total dissolved phosphorus, ortho-phosphate, urea, silicate, total organic carbon, dissolved organic carbon), chlorophyll-a (total and fractionated), brown tide (Aureococcus anophagefferens), and total and fecal coliform bacteria.

Outcome: Trends analysis of various parameters and early detection system of Brown Tide blooms.
