Lower Columbia River Estuary

Habitat Mapping

Type: Extent of habitat (i.e., area of habitat and whether there has been a decline) and condition of habitat and sources affecting habitat (i.e., the condition or functionality of the habitat).

Category: Submerged, Intertidal, Wetland, and Upland

Cost: Information not provided.

Description: The Estuary Partnership is using available historic data to contrast with latest habitat maps to determine type and extent of habitat lost. Some information is digitized and we are seeking funding to get more data digitized. The Partnership supports effort of NMFS to identify historic salmonid habitat in the lower river.

Outcome: The historic data will be used as a planning tool to identify goals for habitat conservation and restoration. It will also be used as outreach tool to demonstrate what has been lost and how far we need to go for recovery.
