Lower Columbia River Estuary
Snapshot Water Quality Monitoring
Type: Condition
of habitat and sources affecting habitat (i.e., the condition or
functionality of the habitat) and stressors affecting habitat
(i.e., which sources have contributed to its degradation and whether
they are direct or indirect factors).
Category: Wetland
Cost: Information not provided.
Description: The Estuary Partnership is sponsoring a snap
shot water quality monitoring event on September 28 and 29 in an
attempt to obtain basic water quality and habitat data for the entire
lower Columbia River in one time period. Approximately 400 volunteers
as well as agency monitoring teams will be on the river gathering
basic data. The project is designed to not only gather basic data
but to be a key pubic outreach tool. By bringing all the different
monitoring efforts on the river together at one time, we hope to
demonstrate the value of looking at the river as a whole ecosystem,
not just a series of isolated parts.
Outcome: A report will be published and widely distributed.
Based on the success of the project, we plan on making it an annual
event.
