Insights on the NEPs -
Tillamook Bay

ANEP: Tillamook BayNatural resources remain the backbone of local and regional economies which depend on fishing, timber, and agriculture to support a diverse and growing population.

Most problems result from forestry and agricultural practices and habitat loss due to a combination of sedimentation and loss of riparian areas.

Specific problems include declines and losses of fish and wildlife, especially anadromous fish; erosion of the watershed, and excessive sedimentation in the bay and tributaries affecting fresh and saltwater flows and living resources; and pathogen contamination affecting shellfishing and water contact uses.

Water quality studies are identifying sources of bacteria and linking land use practices to water pollution. The program is coordinating efforts by state agencies, university research scientists, contractors, industry, and sampling volunteers.
