Insights on the NEPs -
Narragansett Bay

ANEP: Narragansett BayThe management plan focuses on conserving and restoring natural resources and protecting and enhancing water quality. Two approaches are being used.

First, the NBEP develops bay-wide planning and analytical tools and aligns these with new policy initiatives that create a basis for informed, inclusive decision-making.

The NBEP has organized several ongoing workgroups and forums to investigate Bay issues and to implement actions. Out of this work, the Partnership for Narragansett Bay was formed - a decision-makers group that has taken on the task of better integrating environmental protection and restoration with economic planning and development for the Bay and watershed.

Second, the program works with agencies, organizations and communities on local environmental projects, providing funding and technical assistance as well as using effective outreach to inform and engage citizens.

A primary role of the NBEP is coordination - filling a critical need to bring science, funding and people together to address Bay and watershed issues. The program is successfully leveraging state, federal and local resources to further common goals.
